Lord, Your Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation

Sometimes I wonder if these entire positive attitude and thoughts are just psychological – it’s all in the mind. The struggle with the carnal mind, logic and reason is always opposing that of the spirit - which is knowing the truth about God...truly knowing God...and not about God.

Let’s start with positive attitude. We tell ourselves that our future is in the hands of a greater being who is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. Hence we place our trust and our sense of security there.

Plainly speaking, it just seems like we are simply “psyching” ourselves up to be in the right frame of mind...to be positive about things. Well, if you know about self-help books, the writers or 'gurus' advocate positive thinking - telling yourself that you can do it and all those positive thinking and attitude stuff.

Somehow it draws a parallel - not identical, but a somewhat similar notion of thought. See that is when our ability to reason and our ability to process information and facts logically come in. And these are carnal; these are of the flesh. It is us telling ourselves positive things; thinking positive stuff.

Reason and logic tend to oppose the spiritual things of God, simply because God is above all reason and logic. He is simply because He IS. He exists simply because He exists. He created just simply by words spoken, and just these alone are beyond logic, reason and explanation.

The difference its that, for self-help, it is self-centred. What are taught do not have anything to base themselves on. But the positive things of God that we remember like promises of the bible, are based on the truth.

Would we "psycho" ourselves positively because this is the only way to feel better, and there is a proper reason to do so? Or would we allow reason and logic determine our attitude? The reason and logic of our minds will try (although often proven unsuccessful...that is why we need faith - faith in God) to reason out the truth in the Bible through logical means. And if u think about it, sermons and Bible study sessions are mere channels by which the truth of God's words are logically explained and thus we accept them “reasonably” in our everyday life application.

Understanding of God’s words does not depend on mere logic and reasoning in their entirety. On the contrary, understanding of God's words depends TOTALLY on the Holy Spirit's wisdom and revelation in our lives. In other words, wisdom and revelation are God's spiritual channels of reason and logic.

Man's channels of reason and logic are carnal. That’s the difference...

Does this article make sense at all? Maybe, maybe not...haha! Breaking it down, if it makes sense, that means we have all been reasoning through logical means in our minds. Right? Hahaha!=P In truth, I don't know what started me blabbering on this...but watch out for more as I will include Biblical prove in my attemtps to make some sense of this. Heee!

i geddit

in fact, I totally agree... I would say the only way for us to fully accept God's word is not merely through logic alone but TOTALLY and ONLY through the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God.

fwah... this is very chim man. haven't read it the second time through to make sense of it yet, but got the gist of it. have pondered about this topic before... about psycho-ing ourselves to think that God is in control and stuff. also thought about knowing about God and knowing Him.

i guess that if you know everything about someone and yet not know him/her personally, you would end up having to psycho yourself to trust him/her when asked to trust him/her. in fact, it's very difficult to trust someone you don't know, even if you know a lot about that person.

maybe that's why our religion is about a relationship. to know God, not just about Him... well, it's always easier to trust a person than plain facts.

hmmm... think i've digressed... original topic is about reason and logic... oh well... pai seh. =) just some thoughts

I dunno, I'm not so religious like you guys.

Way I see it, are you happy. If you're happy being religious and holding onto your faith, good, don't stop.

If you're happy holding on to the material things in life. OK lor, go ahead lor, watever.

Ultimately, you happy, he happy, she happy, they happy, we all happy.
